20th Brahms Festival, Academy of Music
Johannes Brahms was one of the most influential composers of the 19th century. This year’s festival is named “Dedicated to Brahms”. The best soloists of the Academy of Music, which celebrates its Centenary in 2011, present a diversified programme with symphonies, chamber music, recitals and piano recitals as well as choral concerts of Brahms and his contemporaries.
At the Brahms-Institute in Lübeck located inside the beautiful Villa Eschenburg guests can study a unique collection of precious handwritings, letters, photos and other exhibits and sources portraying Johannes Brahms and his life and work. The free exhibition „Johannes Brahms – icon of the bourgeois lifestyle?“ is open to visitors every Saturday between 2 p.m and 6 p.m.

Edvard Munch. Graphic works
Edvard Munch’s graphic work holds a unique position, in terms of both quality and quantity. The museum Behnhaus Drägerhaus shows a private collection from Norway with more than fourty important woodcuts by Edvard Munch. As a graphic artist, Munch was innovative in several fields and experimented with and simplified the various techniques. Woodcut was the graphic method which came to occupy Munch the longest. The exhibition features woodcuts such as “Man’s head in woman’s hair” or „Evening. Melancholy I“ from1896 or „Girls on the bridge“ dating back to 1918 . The Norwegian private collection is completed by works from the museum’s collection. www.die-luebecker-museen.de

Lübeck Christmas City of Northern Germany 2011
A stroll around the Christmas fair area, which was first mentioned in 1648, is a must for all Lübeck visitors. The Market and its some 400 merchants offer toys and Christmas decoration, gingerbread, hot spiced wine and many other things. The historic Christmas market at St Mary’s church makes visitors travel through time - medieval flair amidst of modern Lübeck. There is also a fairytale forest where you can meet Little Red Riding Hood, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella.

Our tip: The Craftsmen's Christmas Fair inside the Hospital of the Holy Spirit
This arts- and crafts market inside the festively decorated church hall and in the small cabins of the long hall is unique. The ambience of this medieval building with its beautiful wall paintings and art treasures is a perfect location for a Christmas market.
